Dr. Frank Lavernia is founder of the North Broward Diabetes Center in Coconut Creek, Florida. With specific interest in diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and lipid management, Dr. Lavernia has over 32 years of experience in diabetes practice, and is a national speaker for educational programs all over the US.
Dr. Lavernia attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and received his medical degree from Zaragoza Medical School in Zaragoza, Spain. He has been a faculty member of the National Diabetes Education Initiative (NDEI), Vascular Biology Working Group (VBWG), and Coalition for the Advancement of Cardiovascular Health (COACH) for many years, and his office has held a Certificate of Recognition from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA) since 1998.
Dr. Lavernia is a member of the ADA and the National Hispanic Medical Association. He has multiple publications and has appeared in several TV programs and NPR (National Public Radio) discussing diabetes and its complications.
